Here is an exerpt from The National Evangelical Association: The monthly survey asked “What do Evangelicals think of the current presidential candidates for 2008?” One denominational CEO spoke for the majority of respondents when he said “There is no one evangelical response to the 2008 candidates. I believe that the evangelical vote will be spread out widely in the primaries and the general election will depend on the candidates and their relationship with evangelicals. From my perspective no one candidate is capturing support of the evangelicals.” When making a specific choice “Anyone but Hillary,” said one leader of a Midwest association of churches. He added that “Conservative Evangelicals have become accustomed to voting for candidates that clearly align with many of their values. So far that does not seem probable in the 2008 election, and Evangelicals will probably have a difficult time learning to make compromises as they vote.” One Hispanic church leader claimed that “Evangelicals are caught between a rock and a hard place. At the end of the day it is still important that we do not endorse candidates but rather that candidates endorse our values and ideas.” There was little enthusiasm for or even mention of boycotting the election or supporting a third party candidate. “It may come down to the lesser of evils,” according to one response. “There is no groundswell support for any Republican or Democratic candidate,” says National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) President Leith Anderson. The Evangelical Leaders Survey is a monthly question to 100 members of the NAE board of directors that includes heads of evangelical denominations with about 45,000 local churches, executives of para-church organizations and colleges plus a limited number of individual evangelicals who hold at-large seats. ......................................................................................................................................................................
